Riccardo Stefanini was born in Orvieto, Umbria and moved to Rome in 1977 where he worked for 13 years with a large commercial company. In the early Eighties while still in Rome, he began to take interest in the music world; first Brazilian and later Jazz. He began frequenting the most important musical sites of the Italian capital and subsequently began organizing small concerts both in Rome and his hometown Orvieto.
In the early Nineties he was contracted by Partener&Partener to assist the Brazilian National Soccer team for the 1990 World Soccer Championship in Italy.
In Gubbio (Umbria), Stefanini organized all the musical activities around the Brazilian national team including the inauguration of the hotel where the team and its’ staff where guests. The prestigious soiree was conducted by the M.C. Gianni Minà. Many artists participated; Ornella Vanoni accompanied with the guitar of Michele Ascolese as well as the most important Brazilian musicians resident in Italy, among which Irio de Paola, Jim Porto and others. In Asti (Piemonte), during the teams’ second retreat, Stefanini is an indispensable point of reference for the whole Brazilian staff.
After the championship games, Stefanini moved to Brazil at Rio and Sao Paolo. After participating in two television shows dedicated to soccer and show business, he has the opportunity of working on a film produced by a French-Italian company as co-production manager. The movie, filmed for tv and distributed in Brazil and other states was titled “Histoire d’O” and shot in English with a Brazilian cast. He begins working in the Brazilian film-making and television sectors and becomes acquainted with many artists and media professionals. At this time he is offered a participation in the production of the movie “Il barbiere di Rio” with Diego Abatantuono. The offer was not accepted because at the same time he received an offer to collaborate with Umbria Jazz.
The participation with Umbria Jazz begins with the first festival in Orvieto and ever since he has covered all the yearly editions. While still living in Rio, he would come every December and July for the role of Stage Manager in the staff of Umbria Jazz.
In Brazil he helps in promoting the Umbria Jazz festival which at the time is still not as well known to the general public as the Montreaux festival. He participates in many radio and tv shows and informs the major Brazilian newspapers such as O Globo, Jornal do Brasil, Veja, and many more. In 1998 he returns permanently in Italy and he participates in all the Italian and international Umbria Jazz programs in Perugia, Orvieto, Ischia, New York, Melbourne and Belgrade.
For the last 9 years he has been the Artistic Director of the “Città Slow in Festival” which is affiliated with “Slow Food” with the name “Dinner Music” and is held in Orvieto in the months of February, March and April. During this event, some of the best Italian and international musicians are invited to participate; some recent performers are Stefano di Battista, Steve Grossman, Doctor 3, Jeremy Pelt, Tullio de Piscopo, and many more.
In the years 2002, 2003, 2004 he is the Artistic Director for the Alfa Soul Tour; an event produced for the Alfa Romeo automobile group that brought on tour throughout Italy around one-hundred of the most acclaimed jazz musicians such as Enrico Rava, Danilo Rea, Enrico Pieranunzi, Roberto Gatto, Stefano Bollani, Steve Grossman, Fabrizio Bosso, Daniele Scannapieco, Stefano di Battista, Michele Ascolese, and many more for a total of 200 concerts.
In February – March of 2006 he directed a jazz tour through northern Italy for beer brand Pilsner Urquell/Peroni with the best of Italian jazz.
In May of 2006 he works as road manager for the duo Rava/Bollani for a South American tour through Uruguay, Argentina and Brasil on behalf of the Italian Cultural Institute.
In September and October of 2006 he works as road manager for various Italian jazz bands - Francesco Cafiso, Doctor 3, Stefano Bollani quintet – for a Brasilian tour in the cities of Ouro Preto and Brasilia, on behalf of the Umbria Region, and in the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo for the “TIM Festival” on behalf of Mario Guidi and his MGM Music Management group.
Riccardo Stefanini is fluent in Portuguese and well practiced in English.
